Looking for a graphic design agency in Bristol? We have a solution for you and also some comments on the web design industry trends for 2019 and beyond.
Typography has always been fundamental in design, (not so much when the technology didn’t permit it) but now we have a high level of freedom, expression and experimentation, typography is taking its rightful place. In a dominant way as if joyfully getting its own back for years of suffering due to the scarcity of fonts and problems with legibility and compatibility in the primitive days of web design. Currently, there are font trends with lots of personality, but it’s not so much about choosing fonts or their combinations, it’s the very use of “words” as the main element of the aesthetic, as well as the semantics. Words now have a physical presence in design, a structural element around which the rest of the composition flows.
There seems to be something particularly attractive about brutalism’s in-your-face aesthetic these days. Whether it’s as a natural pendulum swing away from the “clean” and “minimal” style that recently dominated the web – a rejection of the cutesy friendliness of a million brand’s voice and illustrations, a middle finger in the face of the so-called “homogeneous web,” or an act of resistance to the increasingly surreal blend of fact and fiction the web exposes us to daily – there’s no denying that brutalism has moved out of design’s subculture and into the fully branded spotlight.
Three-dimensional renderings are providing an update to flat design. The result is a mash-up of 3D realistic and flat interfaces that are complex, visually interesting and showing up everywhere. It’s like a touch of virtual reality in designs that don’t require anything special to look at. When you look deeper into the trend, a lot of what make it work are depth in layers plus animation. (See how multiple design trends impact one another?) Some people are starting to call this concept “deep flat.” But we just think it is a natural evolution of flat design.
